HUNGARY | A week-end in Lillafüred

You could not imagine a better place to go to around Valentine's Day than Lillafüred. It is so fabulous even in February that it makes you want to return one day. Especially if you are as lucky as we were with the weather. Although it was pouring with rain when we arrived, the next morning everything was covered with snow!

My last memory of the place was from my school days as we used to go there for our boring school trips – and I must say that nothing but the souvenir shop has remained the same since then! We stayed at Palotaszálló, which in itself is worth visiting. You might feel as if you were a princess, at least for a couple of days. The atmosphere of the building, the hall, the dining room and the reception really call the noble lifestyle of the past. The staff are polite and helpful, most of them seemed to do their best to satisfy us, the guests. Our room was not the biggest, though, but it was not a problem as we spent most of the time outside or in the hotel's wellness area.

There is a lot to do and see in the neighbourhood: you can take a walk in the garden of the Szálló and around Lake Hámori, visit Anna cave, take a ride on the small forest train or go to see the tiny village nearby – just to mention a few. I think visiting Lillafüred is a perfect program for couples and families alike any time of the year!
